The 54th San Francisco International Film Festival opens with a world-class cinematic event, special guests and a festive celebration with live entertainment, dancing, food and drinks. Join the convivial throng at the Castro Theatre for a screening of Beginners, and then head to the lavish party to enjoy culinary delights from local restaurants, sophisticated cocktails and, of course, dancing. You must be 21+ to attend the party.

Mike Mills (USA 2011)
A graphic artist (Ewan McGregor) who has always been unlucky in love embarks on a new relationship and gradually absorbs the lessons imparted by his father (Christopher Plummer), who emerges from a long, passionless marriage at 75 and comes out of the closet, refusing to let even a cancer diagnosis blunt his eagerness to let love into his life.

The San Francisco International Film Festival’s Midnight Awards have been created to honor a dynamic young American actor and actress entering the prime of their careers who have made outstanding contributions to independent and Hollywood cinema and who bring striking intelligence, exemplary talent and extraordinary depth of character to their roles.

The Midnight Awards take the form of a late night awards ceremony and cocktail reception featuring great food and drinks, DJ entertainment, film clips and remarks by special guests. Festive dress required! You must be 21+ to attend.

This year's recipients are Clifton Collins, Jr. and Zoe Saldana.

Film Society Awards Night is one of San Francisco’s most highly anticipated black-tie gala events, benefitting SFFS Youth Education. This lively and memorable evening honors this year’s directing, acting and screenwriting award recipients with peer tributes and career highlights, and features a special tribute to George Gund III.

The Peter J. Owens Award is made possible by a grant from the Peter J. Owens Trust at the San Francisco Foundation. Gary Shapiro and Scott Owens, trustees. The Founder’s Directing Award is given in memory of Irving M. Levin, the visionary founder of the San Francisco International Film Festival in 1957. The Kanbar Award is made possible by San Francisco Film Society board member Maurice Kanbar.

Terri is a heavy, shambling, pajama-wearing junior high student, the physical incarnation of all the insecurity and awkwardness that accompanies emerging adolescence. When vice principal Fitzgerald (John C. Reilly) tags Terri as an at-risk student, an unexpected friendship blooms between two misfits in this hilariously touching tale of youth in transition.

Mathieu Amalric, 2010
French actor Mathieu Amalric directs and stars in this sexy yet wistful comedy about a disgraced French TV producer making a comeback with a troupe of buxom, brassy American burlesque performers touring the French countryside. Their manager may be seeking redemption, but these ladies are pros, so regardless of the outcome the show must go on.
